On February 5-6, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom, Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, met with provincial administrators in Nong Khai to discuss the implementation of measures to address liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma in the province. Attendees included Mr. Somphop Samitasiri, Governor of Nong Khai; Dr. Surapong Padungwiang, Provincial Public Health Officer; local government officials; and representatives from the private sector. Mr. Narong Phonla-iad, Chairman of the Regional Health Committee for the People, Region 8, also participated in the discussions. Initially, the collaborative approach focused on achieving an 80% screening rate for liver fluke disease in the population aged 15 years and older within two years, along with establishing model areas for comprehensive and integrated implementation throughout the disease cycle.
