On February 21, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, in collaboration with the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, the Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office, and the Ban Ped Subdistrict Municipality, organized a mobile screening unit for liver fluke and cholangiocarcinoma (Cholangiocarcinoma) as part of the "World CCA Day 2025" initiative. The event was presided over by Dr. Apichai Limanont, Provincial Public Health Officer of Khon Kaen, who gave the opening ceremony. Ms. Waraporn Chookhunhom, Head of the Communicable Disease Control Group, Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office, presented the report. Dr. Ruangsip Thueannadee, President of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Loylom, Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, gave supporting speeches, and Ms. Piyawan Chittamai, President of the Ban Ped Subdistrict Municipality Council, gave a welcoming speech. The event took place at the multipurpose building of the Ban Ped Subdistrict Municipality, Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province.
The event included liver fluke screening using the rapid OV-ATK urine test kit, with 500 participants. 121 individuals (24.20%) were found to be infected with liver flukes and were treated with anthelmintic medication (praziquantel). Additionally, bile duct cancer screening using ultrasound was provided, with 407 participants. Nine individuals (2.21%) were suspected of having bile duct cancer and were referred for confirmation and treatment.
In addition, education on liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma was provided through exhibitions from the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, and the Office of Disease Prevention and Control Region 7, Khon Kaen Province.
