"The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute and the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, have partnered with the Mahasarakham Primary Educational Service Area Office 3 to provide upskilling training for teachers in teaching OV-CCA in schools."
On May 27-28, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom, Director of the Institute, in collaboration with the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, and the Mahasarakham Primary Educational Service Area Office 3 (Mahasarakham PESO 3), organized a workshop on developing media and competency-enhancing curricula based on knowledge of liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma. Mr. Apichai Lasudta, Deputy Director of Mahasarakham PESO 3, presided over the opening ceremony.
This workshop stems from the shared understanding among the three organizations of the importance of raising awareness about liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma among children and youth. This is crucial in breaking the cycle of disease transmission at its source. To date, over 300 schools have successfully implemented the liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma curriculum. This success has led to the idea of expanding the program to cover more areas, specifically the districts of Kudrang, Kosum Phisai, Chuen Chom, and Chiang Yuen in Maha Sarakham Province. The objective is to promote and develop educational personnel's ability to conduct competency-based learning activities using knowledge of liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma from early childhood, primary, and secondary levels. The goal is to raise awareness among children and youth about the dangers of the disease and the benefits of the acquired knowledge, enabling them to apply this knowledge in their families and communities.
This workshop was made possible thanks to the speakers from the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Kham Kaen Nakhon School, and the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, as well as the venue provided by Sri Kosum Wittayamitra School No. 209.
