"The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute held a network meeting for cholangiocarcinoma patient care, aiming to develop centers of excellence and increase survival rates within two years."

On June 3, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Loylom, Director of the Institute, together with the Cholangiocarcinoma Center of Excellence, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Attapol Titapan, Head of the Center of Excellence, and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, led by Dr. Ruangsap Thueannadee, President of the Foundation, organized a network meeting for cholangiocarcinoma patient care. The purpose of the meeting was to review lessons learned and develop a comprehensive care plan for cholangiocarcinoma patients in Health Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10. The meeting was held at the Jeimkwan Meeting Room, Bayasita Hotel, Khon Kaen University.
This meeting was held under the project “Action Research for Solving Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma Problems in Health Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10,” as part of the targeted plan “Thailand Free from Liver Fluke Disease and Cholangiocarcinoma.” Discussions focused on ensuring that cholangiocarcinoma patients screened for it receive standard diagnosis and surgical treatment; developing the capacity of personnel and improving the efficiency of cholangiocarcinoma treatment units; developing a network of care teams; and upgrading the follow-up, screening, surveillance, and treatment systems. The key goal is to increase the survival rate of cholangiocarcinoma patients to over 30% within two years. The meeting was honored by the presence of surgeons, professional nurses, and experts from network hospitals in Health Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10, including Sapphasitprasong Hospital. Hospitals in Ubon Ratchathani Province, Sakon Nakhon Hospital, Sisaket Hospital, Maharaj Nakorn Ratchasima Hospital, Udon Thani Hospital, Udon Thani Cancer Hospital, Maha Sarakham Hospital, Roi Et Hospital, Nong Khai Hospital, Somdej Yuparaj Thabho Hospital (Nong Khai Province), Surin Hospital, Khon Kaen Hospital, Buriram Hospital, and Srinakarin Hospital (Khon Kaen Province) participated in the meeting both onsite and online.
