"The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute collaborates with Bangkok Udon Hospital to launch a cholangiocarcinoma screening unit."

On July 20, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom, Director of the Institute, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Attapol Titapan, Head of the Cholangiocarcinoma Center of Excellence at Srinakarin Hospital, in collaboration with Bangkok Hospital Udon Thani, organized the “Cholangiocarcinoma Ultrasound Screening Unit” project. This project was under the Action Research Project to address the problems of liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma in Health Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10, and was held in Meeting Room 5, 4th Floor, Bangkok Hospital Udon Thani.
The project was organized to screen the public for liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma. 215 people received cholangiocarcinoma screening, with 4 suspected cases (1.86%). 117 people were screened for liver fluke infection using the OV-ATK antigen test, revealing 14 infections (11.96%). These individuals received medication and were referred for confirmatory diagnosis and further treatment.
Following this, Bangkok Udon Hospital will establish a "Bile Duct Cancer Screening Unit using Ultrasound" to increase access to screening and expand the search for early-stage bile duct cancer patients for treatment.
