Screening of at-risk groups among the population in Khok Pho Chai District.
The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Loylom, Acting Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University; the Cholangiocarcinoma Center of Excellence, Srinakharin Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University; and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, in collaboration with the Khok Pho Chai District Quality of Life Committee, Khok Pho Chai Hospital, Khok Pho Chai District Public Health Office, and the Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office, organized the “Cholangiocarcinoma Screening Project, Khok Pho Chai District, Khon Kaen Province” from July 24-25, 2025, at Khok Pho Chai Suksa School, Khok Pho Chai District, Khon Kaen Province. The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Yutthaporn Pirunsarn, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province, with Mr. Boonrod Khaokhao, District Chief of Khok Pho Chai, delivering the report on the event.
In addition, Siam Commercial Bank and the Siam Kammachon Foundation donated an ultrasound machine to support proactive bile duct cancer screening activities and a donation to the Bile Duct Cancer Foundation to support the bile duct cancer surgery program. Mr. Tawich Thumwan, Manager of Siam Commercial Bank, Ban Phai Branch, and Ms. Patchara Wattanaudomkul, Manager of Siam Commercial Bank, Muang Phon Branch, represented the banks in making the donation.
The donation was received by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom, Acting Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Attapol Titapan, Head of the Center of Excellence in Cholangiocarcinoma, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. Witnesses included Mr. Yutthaporn Pirunsarn, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province and Chairman of the opening ceremony, and Mr. Boonrod Khaokhao, District Chief of Khok Pho Chai.
On July 24, 2025, a screening for bile duct cancer was conducted for 598 individuals, including members of the public and government officials from Sub Somboon and Na Phaeng subdistricts, Khok Pho Chai district, Khon Kaen province. Thirteen individuals (2.17%) were identified as high-risk and referred for suspected bile duct cancer, while 22 were referred for other reasons. Screening will continue on July 25, 2025, for residents of Ban Khok and Pho Chai subdistricts.
