On August 14, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom, Director of the Institute, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Attapol Titapan, Head of the Cholangiocarcinoma Center of Excellence at Srinakharin Hospital, jointly organized the “Project to Develop the Capacity for the Care and Treatment of Liver and Cholangiocarcinoma Patients and Endoscopic Examination of the Biliary Tract at Sakon Nakhon Hospital.” The opening ceremony was presided over by Commander Khachon Sriyayang, Deputy Director of Medical Affairs, Sakon Nakhon Hospital, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom gave a speech on the background of the project. The event took place in the meeting room on the 5th floor of the Heart for the Nation Building, Sakon Nakhon Hospital.
This project is a collaboration between the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, the Cholangiocarcinoma Medical Excellence Center at Srinakarin Hospital, Khon Kaen University, Sakon Nakhon Hospital, the Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI), and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation. Its objective is to exchange experiences and jointly plan the development of services, thereby enhancing the capabilities of the service units and ultimately developing them into centers of excellence for cholangiocarcinoma in the future.
The event is scheduled for three days, from August 14-16, 2025. It begins on August 14th with the opening ceremony and academic lectures to enhance the capacity for bile duct cancer care. The lectures cover: “Current Treatment Guidelines for Bile Duct Cancer Patients” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Attaphol Titapan, Head of the Center of Excellence for Bile Duct Cancer, Srinakharin Hospital, and “Peri-operative Management of Hepatectomy: Focus on ERAS protocol” by Dr. Sukanya Pakdeesongkram, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. This will be followed by a live demonstration of bile duct cancer surgery, an exchange of experiences in patient referral, and a demonstration of post-operative patient care (bedside teaching).
Similarly, on August 15th, the program began with a lecture on "Peri-operative treatment for cholangiocarcinoma" by Dr. Natcha Khantikaew, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. This was followed by a presentation on "Biliary drainage for cholangiocarcinoma patients" by Dr. Prakasit Sirisut, Khon Kaen Hospital; "Nursing care for cholangiocarcinoma patients treated surgically" by Ms. Supattra Sripakdee, Srinakarin Hospital; and "Nursing care for cholangiocarcinoma patients treated endoscopically" by Ms. Jirapha Sornpetch, Srinakarin Hospital. This was followed by a live demonstration of cholangiocarcinoma surgery, a sharing of experiences in patient referral, and a bedside teaching session on post-operative patient care. Finally, post-operative patient follow-up and evaluation took place on August 16th.
