"The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute held discussions with the Governor of Nong Khai to promote OV-CCA throughout the province."
On September 10, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Loylom, Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Rittirong Jangkote from the Faculty of Public Health, Khon Kaen University, met with Mr. Somphop Samitasiri, Governor of Nong Khai Province, to present a key research plan under the Science, Research and Innovation Strategy: "Thailand Free from Liver Fluke Disease and Cholangiocarcinoma." They also discussed the implementation plan in Nong Khai Province. Mr. Charasphong Khamdokrab, Head of Local Administration, Nong Khai Province, and Mr. Taweechai Siripongsaka, from the Environmental Health and Occupational Health Group, Nong Khai Provincial Public Health Office, also participated in the discussion.
The meeting participants agreed to implement the plan to cover the entire province and all districts, with activities encompassing the life cycle of liver fluke disease and bile duct cancer. This will be integrated with relevant agencies, including:
1. Campaigns to provide accurate information and raise awareness about liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma.
2. Screening and treatment for liver fluke infection.
3. Screening for bile duct cancer using ultrasound.
4. Developing a referral and treatment model for bile duct cancer patients.
5. Promoting the implementation of immunization programs against liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma in educational institutions.
6. Campaigns for food safety, including parasite-free fish.
7. Sustainable waste management.
