"The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute is collaborating on the OV-CCA screening project in Tambon Kham Khaen, Manjakiri District, Khon Kaen, for the third year, using funds from the National Health Security Office."
On September 19, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, in collaboration with Kham Khaen Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital, Ban Nong Kham Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital, and Kham Khaen Sub-district Administrative Organization, organized a liver fluke and cholangiocarcinoma screening project using the National Health Security Fund for the residents of Kham Khaen Subdistrict, Manjakiri District, Khon Kaen Province. This was the third year of the project, continuing from the 2024 fiscal year. The project was made possible thanks to the expertise of Dr. Thitima Anukulananchai (Khon Kaen Hospital), Dr. Kittipat Worawasuwat (Srinakarin Hospital), and Dr. Chayanon Atchariyakarun (Manjakiri Hospital), who served as ultrasound examiners.
Today's project involved 579 individuals undergoing liver fluke screening using the OV-ATK kit. 120 individuals (20.73%) were found to be infected with liver fluke. Additionally, 304 individuals were screened for bile duct cancer using ultrasound. Six individuals (1.97%) were suspected of having bile duct cancer, and 11 individuals were found to have other abnormalities requiring referral. These 11 patients have since been referred for confirmation of their diagnosis and treatment.
