"The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, along with its network from all sectors, held a kick-off event in Nong Khai province and visited service units to promote a comprehensive solution to the OV-CCA problem."

On October 20, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Loylachom, Director of the Institute, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Atthaphol Titapan, Head of the Cholangiocarcinoma Center of Excellence at Srinakarin Hospital and a member of the Institute's board, in collaboration with the Nong Khai Provincial Public Health Office, Sangkhom Hospital, Sangkhom District Public Health Office, and partner networks, organized the “Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma Screening Fair in Sangkhom District, Nong Khai Province.” The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Somphop Samitasiri, Governor of Nong Khai Province, who presided over the opening ceremony. Dr. Banjob Ubolsaen, Deputy Provincial Public Health Officer, gave a report; Dr. Suwit Wibulprasert, Chairman of the Committee for Promoting Key Goals under the Science, Research and Innovation Strategy, explained the background of the program; and Mr. Nuan Tobut, District Chief of Sangkhom, gave a welcoming speech. The event took place at the Sangkhom District Office Auditorium, Nong Khai Province.
The event was held under the Action Research Project for Solving Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma Problems in Health Regions 7, 8, 9, and 10. It served as a kick-off for addressing liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma in Nong Khai Province. Activities included liver fluke screening, with 607 people participating. 205 people were found to be infected with liver flukes (33.77%), and they received treatment. Additionally, cholangiocarcinoma screening using ultrasound was conducted on 605 people, with 13 suspected cases (2.15%). These individuals were referred for confirmation of diagnosis and treatment.
On the same occasion, distinguished guests and experts from the central and regional areas, including Dr. Supakit Sirilak, Director of the Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI); Dr. Phisek Lumpikanon, Distinguished Member of the Committee on Quality Control and Standards of Public Health Services; Dr. Jittiporn Thamchinda, Director of the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS); Dr. Thongchai Keeratihatthayakorn, Director of the Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma Program; Mr. Narong Asayuth, Director of the National Health Security Office, Region 7, Khon Kaen; Dr. Nopparat Phanthuset, Director of the National Health Security Office, Region 8, Udon Thani; Dr. Saman Futrakul, Director of the Disease Control and Prevention Office, Region 8, Udon Thani; Mr. Ruangyot Boonphakdee, Senior Public Health Specialist, Public Health Center Region 8, Udon Thani; and other officials, visited the screening service unit, the waste treatment system management, and the management of cholangiocarcinoma patient care and treatment. They also participated in discussions on implementing measures to address the liver fluke and cholangiocarcinoma problem in Nong Khai Province.
