On November 6, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom, Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, along with the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, the Cholangiocarcinoma Center of Excellence, Srinakarin Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, and the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, in collaboration with the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, Puey Noi Hospital, Puey Noi District Public Health Office, and the Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office, organized the Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma Screening Fair in Puey Noi District, Khon Kaen Province.
The event included a ceremony to pay respects to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. Mr. Karom Kamphithoon, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province, presided over the ceremony and led the remarks. Ms. Rujikarn Veerachotthananchai, Deputy District Chief of Puen Noi District, Khon Kaen Province, gave the welcoming speech. Ms. Duangkhai Arnnoporn, Deputy Chairperson of the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, spoke about participation and support for the project. Finally, Dr. Kamol Srilom, Deputy Provincial Public Health Officer of Khon Kaen, presented the report.
The event included screening for liver fluke infection and ultrasound examinations to identify at-risk groups suspected of having bile duct cancer. Over 799 individuals, including members of the public and government officials from the area, participated in the screening. Urine tests using the rapid OV ATK kit revealed that 242 individuals (30.28%) were infected with liver fluke infection and received antiparasitic medication on the day of the event. For the ultrasound examinations, 748 at-risk individuals were examined, and 11 individuals (1.47%) were suspected of having bile duct cancer.
