The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, and Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office collaborated to conduct proactive screening of residents in Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province.
On January 22-23, 2026, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, in collaboration with the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, the Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Office, Nam Phong District, and Nam Phong Hospital, organized the Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma Screening Fair in Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province. The event was held at the auditorium of Nam Phong Phatthanasuksarat Ratchamangkhala Phisek School, Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province.
On January 22, 2026, Dr. Apichai Limanont, Provincial Public Health Officer of Khon Kaen, presided over the opening ceremony. Mr. Navin Khamwiang, Deputy Mayor of Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization, spoke about the organization's participation in this screening activity. Associate Professor Dr. Watcharin Loylom, Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, discussed the background of the Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma Screening Unit Project.
Both activities involved screening the population for liver fluke infection using a rapid urine test kit (OVATK). A total of 761 individuals, including government and private sector staff, underwent urine tests. 68 individuals were found to be infected with liver fluke, representing 8.93%. Additionally, 1,420 individuals were screened for bile duct cancer using ultrasound. 26 individuals were suspected of having bile duct cancer (CCA), representing 1.83%, while 31 individuals (2.18%) were referred for other reasons among the at-risk group.
