The "Thailand Free from Liver Fluke Disease, No Deaths from Cholangiocarcinoma" project was launched in Health Region 7.
On May 16, 2025, Dr. Thongchai Keeratihatthayakorn, former Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, in his capacity as a subcommittee member overseeing the key objectives of the "Thailand Free from Liver Fluke Disease, No Death from Cholangiocarcinoma" project, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Loylom, Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, in his capacity as the project leader, jointly explained the progress towards achieving the project's objectives: breaking the liver fluke life cycle and reducing the incidence of cholangiocarcinoma. This was done at the 5th/2025 meeting of the Regional Health Administration Committee, Health Region 7, chaired by Dr. Ekachai Piansriwachara, Inspector-General of the Ministry of Public Health, Health Region 7, at the Roi Kaen Sarasin Meeting Room, Health Region 7 Office. The main objective was to foster understanding regarding collaborative efforts to address liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma at the local level, thereby strengthening the capacity of local agencies to effectively tackle this health problem. This project is primarily supported by the Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI).
