Upskill OV-CCA for teachers in Maha Sarakham Province.
On June 18-19, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watcharin Loylom, Director of the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, in collaboration with the Maha Sarakham Provincial Public Health Office, organized a workshop to refresh and develop the teaching capacity of teachers on liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma in Maha Sarakham Province, for preschool, primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary levels.
The training was honored by the presence of Dr. Pitakpong Payuha, Provincial Public Health Officer of Maha Sarakham, who presided over the opening ceremony. Dr. Hatcha Nueythong, Deputy Provincial Public Health Officer of Maha Sarakham, gave the report. Distinguished guests included Mr. Suthinan Boonmee, Chairman of the Regional Health Committee for the People, Region 7; Associate Professor Dr. Ladda Silanoy and the lecturers from the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University; and Associate Professor Dr. Sampan Thinwiangthong, a faculty member from the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University.
This workshop stems from the three organizations' shared recognition of the importance of raising awareness about liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma in children and youth. This is crucial in breaking the cycle of these problems at their source. To date, over 300 schools have successfully implemented the liver fluke and cholangiocarcinoma curriculum. This success has led to the idea of expanding the program to cover all schools in Maha Sarakham province.
The objective is to promote and develop educational personnel's ability to conduct competency-based teaching activities using knowledge of liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma as a foundation, from early childhood, primary, and secondary levels. This aims to raise awareness among children and youth about the dangers of the disease and the benefits of the acquired knowledge, enabling them to apply it in their families and communities.
This workshop was made possible thanks to the speakers from the Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Kham Kaen Nakhon School, and the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, as well as the venue provided by Sarakham Pittayakhom School.
