"The Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute presents a targeted plan to proactively promote OV-ATK screening."
On September 9, 2025, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wacharin Loylom, Director of the Institute, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nisana Namavath and Dr. Paramet Klanrit, members of the Institute's board, presented their targeted plan, "Thailand Free from Liver Fluke Disease and Deaths from Cholangiocarcinoma," to Dr. Narong Asayuth, Director of the National Health Security Office Region 7 Khon Kaen, at the NHSO meeting as part of the team-building project at Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province.
The "Thailand Free from Liver Fluke Disease, No Deaths from Cholangiocarcinoma" plan is an action plan that addresses all aspects of the disease's life cycle, especially proactive liver fluke screening by innovative units linked to the National Health Security Office (NHSO) benefit package, which will help increase public access to screening.
Simultaneously, the institute provided liver fluke screening services using the OV-ATK ready-to-use urine test kit to project participants. A total of 227 people received the service, and 33 (14.53%) were found to be infected with liver flukes. These individuals received advice from pharmacists at Khon Kaen University via the Telehealth Thailand system and have already received medication.
