5 months, 5 days: Medical student volunteers contribute to society.
On May 5, 2026, the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, the Cholangiocarcinoma Center of Excellence, Srinakarin Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, in collaboration with Phu Lek Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital, organized the 2026 Community Volunteer Camp Project and a mobile screening unit for liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma ultrasound in Phu Lek Sub-district, Ban Phai District, Khon Kaen Province.
This time, first, second, and fifth-year medical students participated in providing services to the public in Phu Lek Subdistrict, Ban Phai District, Khon Kaen Province. The activities included screening for liver fluke infection using the rapid OVATK urine test kit and ultrasound screening for bile duct cancer. Over 240 people participated in the screening. Urine tests revealed that 91 people (37.9%) were infected with liver fluke and received antiparasitic medication. For ultrasound examinations, 247 people were examined, with 7 individuals (2.83%) identified as at risk for bile duct cancer, and 12 were referred for other reasons.
